What is the BC Race to Educate?
The BC Race to Educate is a fundraiser to benefit Saint Columbkille Partnership School in Brighton, MA. Started by Coach Mike Cavanagh and the BC Hockey Team in 2011, it has grown dramatically. Runner, walkers, sponsors, families, BC athletes, musicians, and alumni all come together to make a difference in the lives of the students at Saint Columbkille.
What is Saint Columbkille Partnership School?
Saint Col’s, as it is fondly referred to, is a vibrant Pre-K-to 8th Grade Catholic school in Brighton, MA. In 2006, Saint Columbkille School, like so many urban Catholic schools, was slated for closure. With the support of Boston College and its Lynch School of Education, as well as the continued commitment of Saint Columbkille Parish and the Archdiocese of Boston, Saint Columbkille School was saved. Fast forward to 2017, we are a diverse school of 435 students with 22 different languages spoken in the homes of our students.
The BC Race to Educate helps to insure that high-quality Catholic education is available to all who seek it. Through your help, we are able to offer need-based scholarship to all those that need it as well as offer an exceptional education to all of our students.
Last year, 1100 runners/walkers came out for the event. Through the generosity of our sponsors, Saint Col Families/Staff, Boston College and all who participated, we raised just over $170,000. This year, we hope for 1500 participants and hope to raise $200,000 to support Saint Col’s.
