Arts Program Overview
“Beauty, under the care of artists, has the ability to transform even the everyday lives of men and women. Architects and painters, sculptors and musicians, filmmakers and writers, photographers and poets, artists of every discipline, are called to shine beauty especially where darkness or gray dominates everyday life.“ - Pope Francis (2016)
At Saint Columbkille Partnership School, we believe that school is more than academics. It is a place where children are encouraged to grow as individuals, while learning how to cooperate and respect others. Overall, educating children incorporates three essential areas:
- Students gain knowledge and understanding, which they use to develop the skills needed for future education and employment
- Students learn to be responsible, contributing members of society
- Students develop as human beings – people who feel, love and have the ability to marvel at the beauty in the world
Art education is critical for the development of children. A 2005 report by the Rand Corporation about the visual arts argues that the “intrinsic pleasures and stimulation of the art experience do more than sweeten an individual’s life.” According to the report, they can “connect people more deeply to the world and open them to new ways of seeing.” Read more here.
Our Arts Program gives students a basic understanding of the use of various media to create visual art, music, drama and dance. Students appreciate that art can take many forms and that each child has the capacity to create.

"Saint Columbkille is an incredible community of students, families and staff members working towards a brighter future. Everyone is in a state of ongoing reflection that drives us all towards growth and positive change. I am honored to be part of such an important mission."Emily Ransom, Grade 4 Teacher
