Ten talented Boston College students competed in the Sing It To The Heights Competition on Thursday, March 1 at BC’s Robsham Theater. The annual singing contest, organized by BC’s Emerging Leaders Program (ELP), is inspired by “American Idol” and was judged by a panel of three members of BC’s Jesuit community.
Proceeds from tickets sales at the event are donated to the music program at Saint Columbkille Partnership School (STCPS). This year’s Sing It to the Heights raised approximately $4,248. The STCPS choir performed twice during the competition, showcasing the success of the music program.
“Sing it to the Heights is one of our favorite events of the year,” said Saint Columbkille Head of School Dr. William Gartside. “In addition to the funds raised, the event gives our students an opportunity to not only showcase their own musical talents, but also to see firsthand the passionate and talented BC students who bring joy to the community through their performances.”
Dr. Gartside also spoke during the competition, thanking BC for its generous support of the school and its music program. He also showed a video of STCPS students expressing their love for their school and community.
“The relationship [ELP] has with [Saint Columbkille] is really special,” said Sing It To The Heights Emcee Mary Pat Ross, LSOE ’19. “Their music program is especially strong and I’m glad we were able to promote and enable that.”
“We are so fortunate to be a part of Sing It To The Heights,” says STCPS Choir Director Samantha Jordan. “Our Saint Columbkille students get a chance to perform and they are also exposed to incredible talent through the BC students. It is a wonderful night for all!”
The STCPS Choir performed “Big” by Planet Shakers arranged by Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International Ministry and the STCPS Select Choir performed “Even Me” by Patrick Lundy.
