January Spirit Day
January Spirit Day Raises More Than $2,700 to Support Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
Grade 4 teacher and childhood leukemia survivor, Emily Ransom, led the January 2018 spirit day to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Overall, the fundraiser raised $2,754.72. For the month of January, classes competed to see who could raise the most money. Raising $1,470, grade 4 will celebrate with a pizza party.
Throughout the month, collection bins in classrooms helped raise money for the Pennies to Patients Program and online donations were accepted through a Saint Columbkille fundraising page. During an assembly on January 18, Ms. Ransom shared her personal leukemia story and read an original poem entitled “I Had Cancer; Cancer Never Had Me.” A representative from LLS also spoke about the organization and gave background information on blood cancer.
“It is with such amazement that I sit here today, thinking of how lucky I am to be working with such incredible children,” says Ms. Ransom. “I dreamed of being a teacher 12 years ago, and here I am today teaching my fourth class of students!”
