Family Service Program
Saint Columbkille Partnership School believes family involvement increases student achievement, behavior and self-esteem.
Getting involved in your child’s school is a win-win proposition. The school benefits from your talent, time and effort and you, the parent, provide a very important community service for your children and their peers. Volunteering is imperative to the vitality of our school. For these reasons, the school offers a Family Service Program to the families of Saint Columbkille. The Family Service Program recognizes families that participate in school events and activities through volunteerism. Families that complete twenty-five (25) Family Service Hours or more will receive $300 credit per family towards the following year’s tuition.
During the year there are numerous volunteer opportunities for families to fulfill their Family Service. Volunteer opportunities include Christmas at St Cols, Restaurant Fundraisers, Pre/Post BC Race to Educate Party, Book Fair, Holiday Lunches, the Multicultural Pot Luck, and Field Day. All positions are filled on a first come, first serve basis.
Some people are unable to work the day of the events, such as the Christmas at St Cols, but some events require preparations where volunteers are needed. Some pre-event tasks include picking up miscellaneous items, shopping, copying, distributing flyers, cutting and stapling raffle tickets and stuffing envelopes, among others.
Trunk or Treat – Interested families volunteer to decorate their car/trunk with Halloween decorations so that St. Col’s families can celebrate the holiday by “trunk-or-treating” in the school parking lot. Part of the parking lot is blocked off so that cars can set up their decorations and get bowls of candy ready. The rest of the school arrives a little later, and kids trick-or-treat from car to car!
Thanksgiving Lunch – Wednesday, November 15th. Our talented dining room staff prepares an incredibly delicious Thanksgiving meal for all interested students and staff. Parent volunteers are instrumental in making this event happen!
