On Saturday, October 2, 2021, St. Columbkille Parish celebrated its 150th anniversary. Cardinal Séan O’Malley presided over the Mass and afterward, guests were invited to a reception at the school plaza. Cardinal O’Malley, Father Fitzgerald of the parish, and Head of School Jen Kowieski spoke about the importance of Catholic schools. There were about 150 people in attendance.
Music teacher Kiara Zani led a group of Saint Columbkille Partnership School Grade 2 students in performing We Celebrate With Joy, complete with an encore. The students will sing this same piece in the spring as part of their First Holy Communion. Saturday’s event was the first live performance by Saint Columbkille students in more than 18 months.
“It was a great day,” says Head of School Ms. Jen Kowieski. “Having the Cardinal come to our parish and being able to celebrate the parish’s anniversary in person was a blessing.”
The parish was established in 1871, and continues to be a thriving community of local Catholics. Learn more about the history of the parish on their website here.
