Each month, the Community Service Club works on a project for a different nonprofit organization. In March, the group worked together to bake dog treats that were then donated to a BayPath Humane Society of Hopkinton, a local animal shelter.
Students in the Community Service Club are in Grades 4 and 5. Mrs. Janowski, an Instructional Coach at STCPS, is the club’s facilitator.
“We met once a week and worked on different projects,” says Mrs. Janowski, “including helping to spread awareness about heart health for our spirit day for the American Heart Association, writing letters to elders, and collecting donations and making cards for The Confetti Foundation, which helps create birthday parties for children in hospitals.”
Mrs. Janowski said that baking the dog treats in the school’s cafeteria was a highlight of the club’s activities.
“They were SO excited to bake,” she says. “They were even able to take some treats home to share with their own pets.”
