Boston College Football Players Visit STCPS Ahead of Pinstripe Bowl

Rainy days often mean indoor recess, but thanks to a special visit from members of the Boston College football team, this week's recess was anything but ordinary at Saint Columbkille Partnership School.

The players joined students for activities including board games, Lego building, and even a quick game of indoor kickball. The excitement was palpable as students had the opportunity to interact with local collegiate athletes, with many collecting autographs and making lasting memories.

The visit was especially meaningful because one of the players, Khari Johnson, is a proud alumnus of Saint Columbkille. His return to the school where his academic and athletic journey began inspired students and staff alike, showcasing the incredible achievements of Saint Columbkille graduates.

The visit also highlighted the legacy of Peter and Honey McLaughlin, who have instilled in their children and grandchildren a deep love for Saint Columbkille and a commitment to sharing their time, talents, and treasure with our school community. BC Football player Luke McLaughlin represented his grandparents’ lasting connection to the school, whose enduring support is celebrated in our Welcome Center that proudly bears their names.

The BC football team didn’t leave empty-handed. Before departing, they selected tags from the school’s Giving Tree, and the very next day they returned with gifts in hand to fulfill those holiday wishes. Their generosity will bring joy to families within our community during this holiday season, demonstrating not just athletic talent but also a true spirit of giving.

The visit came as the BC football team prepares for the Pinstripe Bowl, where they will face the Nebraska Cornhuskers on December 28 at Yankee Stadium. The Eagles, who finished their season with a 7-5 record, earned bowl eligibility under the leadership of first-year head coach Bill O’Brien. Notable victories throughout the season showcased the team’s resilience and determination, cementing their place in this postseason game.

“We’re so grateful to the BC Football players for taking the time to visit our school,” said a faculty member. “Their presence made the day incredibly special for our students.”

The Saint Columbkille community will be cheering on the Eagles as they head to New York later this month. Congratulations to the BC football team, and thank you for making a rainy day so memorable!
