For one special day, second grader Eloy Aguilar stepped into a leadership role like no other—Head of School for the Day! Eloy earned this exciting opportunity by winning a raffle for students who registered early for the BC Race to Educate. When he saw the list of prize options, he knew exactly what he wanted. “When I saw the options for raffle prizes, I knew I wanted to be Head of School for the day because I knew it would be fun.”
Eloy wasted no time making the most of his big day. His first request? A behind-the-scenes adventure to the attic—a part of the school most students never get to see! Throughout the day, he took his responsibilities seriously, making important announcements and visiting classrooms to check in on students and teachers. But the highlight of his experience was a special lunch with Ms. Kowieski.
Eloy had already made a deal with his siblings, Anabella and Julio, that if one of them won, they would all get to share the prize. True to his word, he invited them along, and together they enjoyed a special lunch featuring Domino’s pepperoni pizza!
While Eloy had a great time leading the school for a day, he also gained a new perspective on what it takes to be in charge. “It was fun being Head of School for the day, but it was also kind of hard,” he admitted. “I wouldn’t want to be the Head of School every single day. I’m happy to go back to being a student.”
Eloy’s exciting day was part of the BC Race to Educate raffle, which gave students the chance to win fun prizes while supporting our school. The raffle will run again through the month of March!
The race itself, taking place on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Boston College, is a community-wide event that helps support Saint Columbkille Partnership School.
Each year, students, families, and supporters come together to run, walk, and cheer on participants. Whether aiming for a personal best in the 5K run or enjoying the kids' fun run, it’s a great way to celebrate school spirit. And for students like Eloy, registering early has its perks—exciting prizes, including the chance to be Head of School for a day!
