Loyola Academy Students & STCPS Parents Invited to Attend Screening of Documentary “SCREENAGERS”

Grade 7 and 8 students from Loyola Academy will join Saint Joseph Prep students for a viewing of the documentary “SCREENAGERS: Growing Up in the Digital Age” on Wednesday, October 17. A community-wide showing that evening at 6 p.m. at Saint Joseph Prep is open to all Saint Columbkille parents and members of the community.

As young people spend increasing amounts of time on their devices, this documentary examines the impact on mental health, academic performance, family dynamics, and peer relationships. The documentary explores social media, video gaming, cyber bullying and Internet addiction through interviews with students, parents, doctors, and psychologists. The film seeks to empower families in addressing these influences in healthy, thoughtful ways.

The evening showing of the documentary will include a student panel for attendees to listen, learn, and engage in meaningful dialogue. The topics of managing screen time, stopping cyber bullying, and understanding the risks of social media and video games are of utmost importance for this young generation and their families. They will also be encouraged to sign a screen time contract with their parents to create an open dialogue about the perils of too much screen time, but also the benefits of technology.
