Leila Assad Elementary Music Teacher

Member of the Saint Columbkille community since 2012

I love sharing inspiration and discovery with students of all ages. It is incredibly rewarding to witness that first moment of understanding when everything “clicks” for a student or when they find a passion for something new in their lives. And it is both humbling and gratifying to be a part of my students’ growth through teaching. I find I also learn so much from my students and the experiences I share with them.

My best memories as a grade school and high school student involve playing cello in my school orchestra. When I started singing in a show choir my senior year, it just added to the whole musical experience. I hope to help my students find their inner musicians – to be fearless singers and instrumentalists; to experience music as prayer and as play; and to perhaps discover a language that speaks to them personally and that lets them speak to the world around them.

My own son went to Saint Columbkille and I still love the caring community and commitment to education that goes beyond just academics. I enjoy a variety of hobbies outside of school, including gardening, poetry, cooking, canoeing and being a mother.
