Sister Lisa Marie Valentini, MSC Visits STCPS

Sister Lisa Marie Valentini, MSC visited Saint Columbkille on Friday, December 13 to spread the word about her missionary work in other countries. A former first grade teacher, Sister Lisa shared stories, photos and songs with students in K2 to grade 8.

“She reminded the students of our call as Catholics to reach out to others and teach them about Jesus,” says Assistant Head of School Rachel Rumely. “Her passion and enthusiasm are contagious – Sister Lisa really has a way of encouraging students to put their faith into action in our community and beyond.”

Sister Lisa has served God and His people in Peru, Mexico, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and India over the past 36 years. She leaves in March for a mission in Angola, Africa. She is a speaker for the Missionary Childhood Association, which is a group that encourages children to be aware of the needs of children living in mission diocese throughout the world and to support them both spiritually and sacrificially. The group was founded in France in 1843 and now operates in 110 countries under the banner of “children helping children.”

A Spirit Day will be held on Friday, December 20 to raise money for the Missionary Childhood Association, with students collecting money in mite boxes. Money raised for the organization through schools is directed towards self-help programs involving the building of schools, the provision of health and nutrition programs and medications, school fees and teaching and learning resources.
