Saint Columbkille Partnership School Hosts Distinguished Guests from Seoul National University of Education
On Monday, February 5, Saint Columbkille Partnership School hosted a group of distinguished guests from the Seoul National University of Education (SNUE) and Boston College to learn about the school’s curriculum and best practices in education.
South Korean education representatives visit St. Columbkille School in Brighton, MA and take a tour led by Head of School Bill Gartside. The visit followed the signing of a MOU between BC and South Korea University.
The University in Korea is actively involved in elementary teacher training and in helping a number of public Korean elementary schools. During their visit, they wanted to see how Boston College interfaces with Saint Columbkille. Following meetings at Boston College’s Lynch School of Education, the group was welcomed at STCPS by a few students and then escorted on a tour of the school to visit various classrooms.
Next, they participated in a panel discussion to discuss what they experienced during the tour and best practices in education. In the debrief, the visitors expressed an appreciation of the hard working and fully engaged teachers. They talked about students being active in the classroom discussion and so happy to be learning. They noted that the approach to teaching took into consideration each child’s needs. Overall, they saw that here at Saint Columbkille, teachers teach children to think.
“It is always exciting when visitors come to our school,” says Head of School Dr. William Gartside. “I am so proud of our teachers who see it as their vocation to know and love each student.”
Visitors from South Korea included: Dr. Kyung-Sung Kim, SNUE President; Dr. Sung-Sik Kim, Dean of Planning and International Affairs at SNUE; Dr. Paul Chung, Assistant Professor in the Elementary Education Department at SNUE; and Sunghwan Hwang, a graduate student at SNUE, who specializes in Teacher Education, Special Education Curriculum & Instruction. Christine Power, Director, Practicum Partnerships & Professional Development at Boston College, also joined the group.
